IN ANOTHER series of the immigration raid operation, a foreign man who was under the watchful eyes of the Immigration Enforcement Unit since a week ago was apprehended while in the vicinity of a vegetable stall.
When approached by the immigration officers, the foreign man admitted that his immigration pass had expired and his passport was in his possession, which he kept in his rented room nearby the vegetable stall.
It was later found out by the law enforcers after he surrendered his passport that his immigration pass had expired since January 25, 2013.
Yesterday’s immigration operation was carried out by a team of six immigration enforcement officers and targeted vegetable stalls in Mukim Gadong.
On this note, the Immigration Department reminded employers to always ensure that their employees’ immigration passes are valid as it is an offence to have an employee working with an expired pass.
They are also reminded to be aware of their employees’ whereabouts every time.
The department also reminded foreigners on social visit passes or sponsored visit passes not to abuse the immigration passes given by getting employment regardless with salary or not as it is still an offence to do so and legal actions will be taken.
Foreigners in the country are also advised not to make any deals or surrender their passport to any individual representing themselves as passport agents.
