FOREIGN national associations in the country did not miss the opportunity to share in the joyous occasion of Brunei Darussalam’s 31st National Day celebration in Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday.
Among the associations that joined thousands of other participants in the parade were the Indonesian Community Association (PERMAI), Filipino Community Association and Thai Community Association.
Vishnu Sakdiyakorn, President of the Thai Community Association, said his community felt proud to be able to join thousands of people in celebrating Brunei’s National Day.
“This is the fourth year we have participated in the celebration. It shows the unity and harmony among the nations, especially the Asean member countries,” he said.
A total of 55 members of the Thai Community Association marched in the parade.
PERMAI, which was represented by about 100 members in the parade, said every year, its members look forward to joining in Brunei’s National Day celebration and they treasure the opportunity to be involved in the parade.
A senior member of PERMAI said that apart from fostering friendly ties between the Indonesian community in the country and the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam, their participation in the parade served as a means to show their appreciation to the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for allowing them to work in the country.
The Filipino Community Association was represented by 200 members in the parade. One of the members said that their participation showed the unity of the people regardless of their backgrounds.
