NEW YORK (dpa) – Floral crowns have developed into a popular fashion accessory for women. But it’s not easy to wear flowers in your hair and impress people with your fantastic sense of style.
A recent article in the New York Times offered a complete technical how-to so that you can wear a crown without looking like a bridesmaid in a movie. The tips include: wear them only with sophisticated clothing, and wear them high up the scalp.
Nor is everyone is enamoured with floral crowns. The author of an article for online magazine The Daily Beast declared war on floral crowns calling them “phoney”.
“Unless you spend your days frolicking barefoot in the country, leave the flowers in the ground (or in a lovely vase) where they belong,” declared writer Sara Lieberman.
The flowers used to make the crowns can be real, made of plastic or silk and are attached to a headband.
Aside from the fashion shows, floral crowns have been popularised by the feminist group, Femen, from Ukraine, where floral crowns are common.
