FLOOR collapsed at a house at Lot 4821 of Kampong Kuala Balai Sungai Mengalan in Mukim Kuala Balai, causing persons in the living room to fall onto the ground below and to be struck by debris, according to a statement by the head of the house, Awg Mohd Haikal bin Abdullah, 30, in an interview with the Borneo Bulletin yesterday.
Fortunately, other than minor head wounds, there were no serious injuries, he added.
He went to say that during the time of the incident the weather was rainy but not windy, and that there were more than 30 family members and friends in the living room when it was believed that the foundation, made of wood, caved in the swampy soil underneath, causing the house to collapse.
Belait District Officer Hj Haris bin Hj Othman informed the Bulletin that the family of five – comprising Mohd Haikal, his wife, adopted child and two other members – are now temporarily staying in a flat provided by the Belait District Office.
