KUCHING (NST) – More people in the state have been evacuated after their houses were inundated by floods yesterday.
As of 3pm, a total of 318 people have been evacuated to four flood relief centres in Sarawak.
A Civil Defence Department spokesman told the New Straits Times that two flood evacuation centres are located in Limbang, which houses 249 villagers from two longhouses.
“A total of 244 people from Assam Ng Medamit longhouse and 25 people from the Meruyu Ng Medamit longhouse, were relocated to Ng Medamit Hall and a nearby longhouse respectively,” the spokesman said.
He said 63 people from the Maleng longhouse were relocated to Sekolah Kebangsaan Balingian in Mukah near here while six people from Kampung Rakut Batu 16 sought shelter at their neighbours.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem urged the public from spreading rumours and false information on the social media.
He said the state government had stumbled upon several doctored pictures depicting that Kuching and other towns.
“It is expected that the flood situation especially in low-lying areas in Kuching and other nearby areas are expected to recede after the water barrage here has been opened and released.”
