KOTA KINABALU (Bernama) – Floods caused by incessant heavy rain have affected 168 people in the Pitas district of Sabah and forced the closure of six schools, according to the Sabah Civil Defence Force.
It said in a statement that the 168 people from 46 families were evacuated to two relief centres on Wednesday after their houses were flooded.
It also said that 158 people from 45 families were at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Rokum hall and one family of 10 people at a relief centre in Kampung Sinukab Kinabongan, as of 4pm yesterday.
“The villages affected by the floods are Kampung Rukom Ulu, Kampung Salimpodon Darat, Kampung Sibaung, Kampung Kebatasan Laut, Kampung Sulakolung Kanibongan, Kampung Kutoyon Kanibongan, Kampung Masin Besar Kanibongan, Kampung Kanibongan and Kampung Mandamai,” it said in a statement.
The six schools were SK Kanibongan, SK Dalas, SK Kusikad, SK Sosop, SK Pandan Mendamai and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kanibongan, it added.
