A LARGE national flag that was raised to commemorate the 31st National Day was lowered in an official ceremony yesterday.
The flag was first raised on February 8 at the open area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex.
Yesterday’s lowering saw the attendance of Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs as the guest of honour.
The proceedings began with the marching of personnel from the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) into a small square located in front of the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
Once the RBN personnel were in position, the flag was lowered as the national anthem, “Allah Peliharakan Sultan” resounded from a choir group from the Royal Brunei Police Force band.
The large flag was then folded and presented to the guest of honour by a representative from the RBN.
The event came to a close after a Doa Selamat which was read by Pengiran Haji Hafizuddin bin Pengiran Haji Bakar, Mosque Affairs Officer, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Among those present yesterday were Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman, Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin Permanent Secretary as well as Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and senior government officers.
