KLANG (NST) – Five friends including two juveniles were charged at the magistrate’s court with kidnapping and wrongfully confining a five-year-old toddler for ransom of over RM830,000 last month.
Unemployed Mohammad Norhafizie Abdullah, 18, natural gas vehicle (NGV) installer Mohammad Faiderus Suhaimi, 32, sales promoter Nashamizie Shahidan, 19 and two other teenagers nodded their head as a sign they understood the charge read to them.
However, no plea was recorded. The five of them were alleged to have kidnapped and wrongfully confining Loo Qing Shien and had asked for AUD100,000 (RM277,291.25), USD100,000 (RM358,040) and RM200,000 ransom from the victim’s family. They were accused to have committed the offence at a house in Taman Maznah, Taman Sentosa here around 1.52am on Jan 22.
Deputy public prosecutor Rozana Husin offered no bail to all accused.
Magistrate Nur Asma Ahmad did not allow bail and fixed March 27 for mention.
Counsel Nur Aida Md Zainuddin represented Mohammad Norhafizie and the juveniles, while Shah Rizal Abdul Manan represented Nashamizie. Mohammad Faiderus was unrepresented.
The five accused were charged under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 (Revised 1989) and face death or imprisonment for life, if convicted.
It was reported that a toddler was held captive for 10 days after he was kidnapped by six men at his home here and was drugged by the captors to keep him calm.
It was believed that the boy was abducted when he was asleep with his mother and another sibling when the suspects broke into the house.
The suspects, aged between 16 and 35, also took the victim’s mother’ s phone.
Seven days after the incident, the victim’s family received a text sent by the suspects via the stolen phone demanding for AUD100,000 , USD100,000 and RM200,000 ransom.
