A PHILIPPINES national, 26, was sentenced to jail for four months after she pleaded guilty before the Bandar Magistrate’s Court to an offence of overstaying in the country.
Senior Magistrate, Haji Nabil Daraina PD Ustaz Hj Badaruddin, heard from an immigration prosecuting officer that the defendant, Wenie Lyn Cableros Franco, went to the enforcement section of the immigration office on May 28 to report her lost passport.
Investigations revealed that the defendant had worked as a domestic helper since July 11, 2013, and that her employment pass had been cancelled by her employer on January 28. The defendant was subsequently given an order to be repatriated by February 2.
However, she failed to fly home on the mentioned date and informed the court that she had been rendering part-time services to earn money in order to buy a ticket back home.
