A 43-YEAR-OLD Filipina expatriate embraced the Islamic faith after spending more than a decade working in the Sultanate at a conversion ceremony held at a private residence in Kg Mata-Mata last night.
Merlyn Galve Mercurio, who is a shop assistant at a business establishment in Berakas, recited the “Dua Kalimah Syahadah” in front of officers from the Islamic Dakwah Centre in the ceremony hosted by Hj Mohd Shafiee bin Hj Abu Bakar.
Merlyn, a mother of two children who hails from Iloilo City, Philippines chose the Islamic name Nur Merliana Galve binti Abdullah.
After spending quite a number of years working in Brunei, she said she very much liked and felt accustomed to the Bruneian way of living and wants to adopt it.
She also said being friends with Muslims has made her journey easier and opened her heart to convert her faith to Islam.
