LAS VEGAS (AFP) – Semi Kunatani and Jerry Tuwai each scored two tries as Fiji defeated New Zealand 35-19 in the final of the USA Rugby Sevens tournament in Las Vegas.
Tuwai scored twice in the first six minutes and Savenca Rawaca added another to give Fiji a 21-0 half-time lead. Kunatani added another try in the opening seconds of the second half.
Jack Goodhue answered for the Kiwis but Kunatani found the try line again and held on.
“We’re a good team, working hard, very young as far as tournament caps,” Fiji’s English coach Ben Ryan said.
“When we’re on our game we’re very hard to play against.”
South Africa remain top of the IRB Sevens standings after beating the United States 31-0 in the third-place match with Cecil Afrika scoring two tries.
