THE first FIFA Futsal Coaching Course organised in Brunei Darussalam in collaboration with FIFA concluded yesterday.
A total of 29 people took part in the five-day course that started on September 22. It was facilitated by AFC Technical Director for Futsal, Ali Targholizade from Iran.
The course offered Level 1 AFC coaching certification.
Hj Muhd Zamri bin Dato Paduka Hj Hamdani, General Secretary of Brunei Football Association, said, “Futsal is growing rapidly in the nation but at the same time our athletes are lacking in few aspects compared to other countries in Asia, and among these is that we have very few certified coaches. So, the association reached out to FIFA to assist in training more certified coaches for our country.
“This is not the end but a beginning for the participants to share their experiences and knowledge as we try to develop quality. This is just a stepping stone.”
One of the participants, Azmanuddin Hj Gillen, a former national footballer and futsal player, said he was thankful for the opportunity to participate in the course.
“We gained a lot of knowledge from the facilitator,” Azmanuddin added.
Another participant Suzaime Hj Mohd Taib said, “We learnt a lot of new theories and ideas which were never used by our coaches. These techniques range from offence to defence to goalkeeping,” Suzaime said.
Participant Hj Sayed Mohamad Yaqub Shah said five days weren’t enough to absorb everything and that they were hungry for more knowledge.
“We will try our best to assist with the local teams,” he said.
