THE diplomatic corps in Brunei yesterday hosted the Fellowship Golf Tournament at The Empire Golf & Country Club.
Some 24 golfers – comprising officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT) and members of diplomatic missions – took part in the event which saw the diplomatic corps emerge as champions after totalling the best seven net scores for each of the teams.
The Gross Winner was Hj Omar bin Baha from MoFAT with a gross score of 82.
Scoring 72, Colonel Reduan bin Hj Omar, Defence Attaché from the Malaysian High Commission, was the Net Winner.
The tournament yesterday was followed by a Fellowship Dinner hosted by Zheng Xianglin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, at his residence.
In his welcoming remarks, Victor A Seleznev, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam, marked the importance of continuing the longstanding traditions of MoFAT and the diplomatic corps.
The golf tournament, which reflected their mutually beneficial, professional friendship, was also part of efforts to promote cooperation, amity and partner-ship between MoFAT and the diplomatic corps.
The diplomatic corps team received the Challenge Trophy, a crystal cup donated by the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines, which the winners get to keep until next year’s tournament.
