IN A further boost to the diplomatic relationship between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China, a special Quanzhou Maritime Exhibition is coming to Brunei next year to promote cultural exchange between both nations.
Zheng Xianglin, the outgoing Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, revealed this during a farewell dinner hosted by Hockian Association of Brunei Darussalam last night.
Also present at the dinner were YB Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin, Pehin Bendahari China Onn Siew Siong, Dato Paduka Lim Beng Thai, Lim Han Chiong, President of Hockian Association, as well as members of the association.
Mr Zheng in his speech said, “The Quanzhou Maritime Exhibition is expected to be in Brunei Darussalam next year as discussions with Fujian Province are in the final stage.”
He said the future of Brunei-China ties looked set to reach new heights after His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam met with President Xi Jinping of China during the Apec Summit recently.
He also highlighted how China can play a part in contributing to Brunei’s Vision 2035.
Mr Lim lauded the invaluable contribution of Mr Zheng in boosting the diplomatic ties of both nations.
“Ambassador Zheng is an outstanding diplomat as during his tenure he has further developed the friendly relations between Brunei and China as well as increase the bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, culture and people-to-people exchange.”
Mr Zheng will be returning to China by the end of next month.
