A FAMILY of eight whose homes were destroyed in an early morning fire last Monday received further government assistance yesterday in a ceremony that took place at the Brunei-Muara District Office in Berakas.
The patriarch of the family, Pengiran Haji Mohd Daud bin Pengiran Ahmad, received $1,500 from Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Mohammad Sunadi bin Haji Buntar, to aid in alleviating the family’s financial burden following the incident.
No injuries were reported and the cost of damage, which includes damages to the family car, is still being assessed while authorities continue with an investigation.
The 87-year-old senior citizen expressed his gratitude for the attention his family has received and commended Pengiran Haji Mohd Daud for the contribution.
“The district officer was among the first to arrive at the scene after our homes were ravaged,” he said, adding that Mohammad Sunadi had arrived just minutes after the emergency call was placed despite the incident taking place at around five in the morning.
“He has come to see us twice since the accident and has provided us with the support and comfort that we need during this trying time,” he said.
The family is currently residing with other family members and among those who have come forward to provide aid are the Community Development Department whose personnel delivered basic necessities such as food and clothing.
