THE Ministry of Health is planning to upgrade its acute ward and facilities for mental health patients at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital at areas where the Paediatric as well as Obstetrics and Gynaecology services were previously located.
Since January 9 this year, the Paediatric as well as Obstetrics and Gynaecology services have moved to the new Women and Children’s Block located beside RIPAS Hospital.
The plan to upgrade the acute ward and facilities for mental health patients was revealed by Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Health, yesterday as he made a working visit to the Women and Children’s Block.
The minister lauded the smooth operations of the centre. Thanks to the leadership and concern of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam towards the welfare of his subjects, the minister said, the Women and Children’s Block was completed, followed by the relocation of the Paediatric and Obstetrics and Gynaecology services January 9-12. “We were not only able to receive patients but also carry out our operations smoothly,” said the minister.
Until yesterday, 122 patients have received treatment in the various wards of the block since services were moved from the main RIPAS Hospital building.
In addition, the new block has welcomed the arrival of 14 newborns since January 11.
Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan said the centre is equipped with modern and the latest medical equipment to provide the best treatment for patients.
Among the facilities are specially allocated areas in Basement 1 to drop off patients or pregnant mothers. For paid parking, the public can go to Basement 2. Vehicles can exit the block and go straight to the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Highway heading towards Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha.
For the convenience of visitors, shuttle bus services are provided at the parking areas of station 2 near Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
The 11-floor new block is built under the 9th National Development Plan (RKN) and has specialist facilities and services including the Paediatrics Ward, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ward, Children’s Specialist Ward, General Paediatric Ward, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Special Care Baby Unit, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, Oncology Ward (children), 13 suites (labour room), two operation rooms, Gynaecology Ward (private rooms), Doctor’s Office, Seminar Rooms, Prayer Rooms, Pharmacy, car park for staff and the public and a café.
In addition, the new facility also has private rooms, comprising two Bunga suites, two Deluxe suites and 16 single rooms for patients.
Also present during the minister’s visit were Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health; Haji Mahrub bin Haji Murni, Senior Special Duties Officer at the Ministry of Health and other senior officers from the ministry.
