THE Ministry of Health takes seriously the crucial aspects of efficiency and effectiveness of its management and administration, particularly in healthcare services, to assess and identify its level of achievement in accordance with international standards and best practices.
This can be done through an evaluation programme that zooms in on the characteristics of the administrative management, including the aspect of patients’ safety, standard operating procedures and work environment.
Minister of Health Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof highlighted this yesterday during an Excellence Awards Ceremony for the Ministry of Health staff.
The programme serves as a recognition to the multi-disciplinary services, according to their respective categories, that have successfully shown excellence. At the same time, it fosters the spirit of greater responsibility and commitment to working as a team and continuing to innovate and improve, which subsequently brings about enhanced quality and efficient services.
“It is hoped the success and award will serve as motivation and catalyst in inculcating a spirit that is more dynamic, innovative, proactive and always moving forward in enhancing the effectiveness and quality of health services in the country,” the minister said.
He urged that identified problems be remedied swiftly, thereby earning public confidence in the services provided by the ministry.
All management and administration of health centres, clinics, wards, clinical expertise and allied health services must strengthen the implementation of a systematic internal audit programme according to the rules and regulations.
“Internal auditing is not only used to identify weaknesses or deficiencies but serves as a warning signal for us to take further action in improving those weak areas,” he added.
The minister later underlined the importance of establishing a management committee for each department and division.
The committee must be actively functional and dynamic in identifying procedures not only to solve problems and complaints, but also to serve as an important platform to assess how to enhance the quality of services to meet expectation of the public.
