PRESIDENT of Universal Shotokan Karate Association (USKU), Hanshi Kenichi Fukamizu was in the country for the inaugural USKU- BSKA Karate Seminar.
President of Brunei Shotokan Karate Association (BSKA) Pg Sabri bin Pg Hj Mohammad said, “Our objective was to give our students a new light on the real karate. Hanshi is an individual of higher rank and authority of JKF (Japan Kumite Referee)”, he added.
“By gaining from his experience, we can enrich and develop our technique.
“We will practise this and put it to the test at tournaments.”
Pg Sabri said the aim was to get Brunei to the top 13 countries in USKU.
“We will be staying in Japan for our training and hopefully we can develop further,” the BSKU president said.
Hanshi said he hoped Brunei would host an USKU world championship in the future.
Hanshi added that there was a high chance that karate could be included in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
