AN escaped detainee, whose photo went viral on WhatsApp, was arrested at 1.23am on October 10, 2017.
Prosecutors produced him in the Magistrate’s Court to face three charges of cheating a jewellery shop attendant, misappropriating a person’s bank debit card and escaping from police custody.
Mohammad Mahadhr bin Haji Ariffin was brought to court the same day he was arrested before Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman where DPP Qhairul Azim bin Nayan preferred the three charges against the defendant.
The 32-year-old local defendant, on the first count, was accused to have purchased a gold necklace from M CityMas Jewellery in the capital from an Indonesian shop attendant worth BND495 using another person’s bank debit card at 10.34am on October 9, 2017.
A second count alleged that the defendant misappropriated the person’s bank debit card on October 10, 2017.
The third count accused the defendant of escaping from Royal Brunei Police Force custody at noon on October 9, 2017 at the Isolation Room 3, Ward 23 on the Fourth Floor of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital .
No pleas were taken from the defendant to make way to complete investigations.
The court fixed the case for further mention on October 14, 2017 while the defendant was ordered remanded at the Jerudong Prison.
In connection to this case, a 21-year-old local woman was produced in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana.
Nur Amira Syairah binti Md Harisfadilah was preferred a charge by DPP Qamarul Affyian bin Abdul Rahman of allegedly harbouring Mohammad Mahadhr at about 1.20am on October 10, 2017 at a hotel.
No plea was taken from Nur Amira Syahirah, who was released on a bail of $2,000 or with one local surety, and ordered to come back to court on October 14, 2017 for a further mention of the case.
