THE Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Brunei Darussalam yesterday hosted a reception to celebrate Korea’s Foundation Day, held at the Songket Ballroom, Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.
Present at the event was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, as the guest of honour.
Other invited guests included government officials, diplomatic corps, prominent businessmen and Koreans residing in Brunei.
This year’s celebration is special as it marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Brunei.
The outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Brunei Darussalam, Choi Byung-Koo, in his speech, lauded the excellent relationship between Brunei and Korea, saying he believed that both countries are moving towards a new phase for closer cooperation based on the cooperation for developments in various fields thus far.
This year is also the 25th anniversary of Korea-Asean Dialogue Partnership, and Korea will host the Korea-Asean Commemorative Summit in Busan in December.
“Cooperation within the Asean framework has also been pivotal in our relationship. Since establishing dialogue relations in 1989, Korea and Asean have worked together and in the process, our two countries have maintained closer consultation as seen last year here in Brunei Darussalam,” said Choi.
