MARIA Grace Koh or ‘Eia’, Brunei’s very own shining star in the entertainment industry, has collaborated with Calvin Chong, leader of the Indonesian boyband Andromeda, and will be releasing a new upbeat single called ‘Party’ in March this year.
Calvin Chong, who is also from Brunei, formed the five-member boyband Andromeda in June 2012 and has released several singles like “Tertipu” collaborating with Nash, which became a hit in local and Indonesian radios. Tertipu’s music video was released in September 2012 through Warner Music Indonesia.
The group also performed on big TV shows in Indonesia like Dahsyat, inbox and Planet Remaja.
Andromeda was also chosen to be artist spotlight of Pelangi FM for the month of September 2012 and was nominated in the Top 10 best group in the Pelangi Awards 2012-2013.
Carrying on the momentum of success, the band released its second single, a ballad called ‘Here in My life’, on October 2013. The song was also composed and arranged by Calvin. Andromeda has been actively performing both locally and internationally as a band, and has performed and shared the same stage with big names such as Cherrybelle, Najwa Latiff, Tegar, Olga Syahputra, Shae, Rahmah Rahim, Revalina, Sylvia Ratonel, Kunjung Whitaker, Hady Mirza and others.
With Andromeda members busy with their own careers, Calvin is also pursuing his new path as a solo pop artist and is currently working on projects towards a deal with Warner Music Indonesia.
On his collaboration with Eia, he said, “Eia and I have been friends for many years, but we’ve never talked to each other about working together in the music scene because Eia was still studying in Singapore while I was busy with Andromeda. Until recently when I was working on my solo singles, I was looking for a female artist to work with and then I thought of Eia, because she just finished her WCOPA competition and recently released her 2nd single ‘That’s the way!’. I contacted her right away without hesitation, as I thought her voice would be perfect for my song.”
On the song ‘Party’, he explained, “I’ve been wanting to release a fast-tracked solo single with a female artist, so I came up with the music arrangement and beats and started writing. It’s a fast, hyped-up song with a little bit of electro, house, hiphop/pop, rap and dubstep. The song was composed and produced with a little help from Eia. ‘Party’ will be on air this coming Monday.”
He added, “It feels good and easy working with Eia. She just knows what to do when she hits the studio. She has an amazing voice, which impressed me the moment she recorded her part in the studio. I don’t need to tell her what to do, she knows what has to be done. So the whole collaboration was real quick and easy and I just love working with her.”
‘Party’ is expected to be commercially released on Wednesday, and members of the public can check out the song on iTunes.
