THE Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, through Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), Ministry of Religious Affairs, yesterday presented donations amounting $11,000 to 55 victims of the recent fire disasters at Chempaka Complex building located at Mile 1, Jln Tutong, and Kg Bakut Pengiran Siraja Muda ‘B’, in the water village.
Each recipient received $200 from Haji Abd Wahab bin Haji Sapar, Senior Religious Officer, Group II of Brunei Islamic Religious Council Department.
The presentation ceremony took place at the Ministry of Religious Affairs building, which also saw the attendance of officers from Brunei Islamic Religious Council Department.
The donation is part of an effort by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council Department to help those stricken by disasters.
The Chempaka Complex building, whose second and third floors were destroyed by the fire incident on October 11, was rented by 18 people comprising Indonesian, Bangladeshi and Indian nationals. The incident claimed one life.
Whereas, the incident in Kampong Bakut Pengiran Siraja Muda ‘B’, destroyed several houses on October 30, which were occupied by 37 family members.
The Brunei Islamic Religious Council donated school bags and books to seven children affected by the fires.
The chief guest expressed his sympathy to all the victims and urged them to be patient in facing the obstacle.
