A BANGLADESHI duo pleaded guilty yesterday in the Bandar Magistrate’s Court to filing false police reports and will be sentenced on December 22.
Magistrate Azrimah Rahman heard from 28-year-old Kamal Hossan Ana Miah and 37-year-old Md Faroque Parash Ali that they were desperate and committed the offences as they were afraid to be sent back by their employer.
Kamal and Md Faroque, night watchmen at Sivli Sdn Bhd, fabricated a robbery story in their report to the police when they found out copper cables from their company were stolen from a project site on Telisai/Lumut Highway and were afraid of their employer who, according to the defendants, might deduct it from their salary and send them home for their negligence.
The employer lodged a police report and Kamal and Md Faroque lodged their statements at the Sungai Liang Police Station at about 2.43pm on December 8.
Kamal said that he was at the security post at the project site when about 2am eight unknown men threatened him and Md Faroque not to call anyone or use a torchlight.
Kamal said five of them went to the place where copper cables were placed and at about 3.45am all the eight men left the premises in a car with the copper cables.
Md Faroque’s concocted story to the police was that at about 2am on that day, both of them were at the security post when suddenly eight unknown men approached them, two of them wielding a knife and machete.
One of them threatened him with the machete and the other with the knife on Kamal.
He was told “Don’t talk, don’t call anyone, don’t turn on the lights or I will cut your neck.”
Three of them stood guard while the other five went for the copper cables. An hour later they left the premises.
With no evidence to support their report, the defendants finally confessed to making it up after being probed by the police.
DPP Danial Kifrawi appeared for the Public Prosecutor.
