THE Narcotics Control Bureau official’s statement and the statistics of 2013 are contradictory. (Brunei a transit point for drugs, dated Thursday, December 16, 2015).
The Assistant Director (Drug Prevention Education) is quoted as saying that the drugs situation in the country is under control, but a look at the 2013 statistics in the same story reveals a different story.
Drug-related arrests in 2013 were 60 per cent higher compared to the year before. When the numbers are so high, can we say that things are under control?
The very fact that Brunei is being used as a transit point to smuggle drugs doesn’t augur well for the country.
We have been talking about awareness for quite sometime, but is it proving beneficial? Numbers don’t lie.
