“THE best alternative against drug abuse is through prevention, as stated in a phrase, ‘prevention is better than cure’.”
This was said by Awang Osmawi bin Haji Osman, Assistant Director of the Anti-Narcotics Education during the get-together ceremony organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) with campaign partners and sponsors in conjunction with the ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.
The event aimed to celebrate the cooperation and relationship between the public and private sectors while appreciating their efforts in making the previous June celebration a success.
“Prevention is a serious business, which proves costly but in the long run, it saves money, lives, resources, our family, our community, our client, harmony and security while also saving our beloved country, Brunei Darussalam,” said Awang Osmawi bin Haji Osman.
He also emphasised that preventing the community’s involvement with drugs can be seen as an investment for the future. The amount of money used to rehabilitate former drug users, the loss incurred from crimes especially related to drugs can be used as a better investment for the next generation and the country’s development.
Certificates of appreciation and souvenirs to sponsors were presented to Brunei Press Sdn Bhd, Cityneon Brunei, Armtrix Enterprise, Mashhor General Contractor Sdn Bhd and Public Works Department (JKR) by the guest of honour, Dayang Hajah Jainiah binti Sirin, Acting Deputy Director of Narcotics Control Bureau.
