THE final round of the S League season is well underway as the race for the league title intensifies.
The teams in the top half of the table will be keeping tabs on Brunei DPMM FC who currently lead the chasing pack with a five-point gap.
DPMM FC will lock horns at home at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium against Home United FC tonight (Sept 17) knowing a victory could seriously jeopardise one of their fierce title rivals.
Home United can close the gap with a win and leave the initiative to the three teams above them while crossing past the 40-point mark.
DPMM FC can close the door for this season at least to Home United and potentially carry a psychological advantage heading to the RHB Singapore Cup in a two- legged affair with the same opponents in Singapore next week.
Certainly, the league game will be their top priority for now as they look to consolidate their place at the top and go within a point of bagging a total of half a century.
Meanwhile, defending champions Tampines Rovers FC and Albirex Niigata (S) have the chance to replace Warriors FC in second spot at the Clementi Stadium.
Albirex suffered a dip earlier in the season but have found momentum at the right time when others were struggling to grind out results.
The Home United tie will be Steve Kean’s men only league tie this month before they move their attention of a possible treble in the semi-finals of the Singapore League Cup.
As statistics come into play, there is little to separate between the two sides but DPMM FC will be looking to start their push towards the finishing line at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium tonight.
