FOLLOWING an investigation into the recently circulated pictures of alleged shark landings on Jerudong Beach, the Fisheries Department yesterday concluded that the picture originated five to six months ago.
The picture of the shark showed various differences to a recent picture taken at Jerudong Beach.
The recent picture shows that pine trees in the background while the picture of the shark has a young coconut tree with bushes. It is believed that the picture was taken before the full enforcement of the ban on sharks in the country.
The department also reminded the public that anyone carrying out shark landings or selling of sharks face a fine of $10,000 or one year of imprisonment or both under Section 40 of the Fisheries Order 2009.
The Enforcement of the Fisheries Order 2009 came into effect this year.
