THE Ministry of Education along with Ministry of Religious Affairs held a thanksgiving doa ceremony yesterday at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The ceremony was held in conjunction with the 24th Brunei Darussalam Teachers Day and 100 Years of Formal Education. Present as the guests of honour were the Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong and the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abd Rahman.
Also present were the Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman the Deputy Minister of Education, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yussof bin Haji Ismail.
The ceremony began with a recitation of Surah Al-Mulk by Mudim Awang Haji Amran bin Haji Mohd Salleh followed by a mass Asar prayer, led by Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Awang Hamidon bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Abdul Hamid, who also led the thanksgiving doa and the “Peliharakan Sultan” doa.
Around 1,500 people comprising male and female officers and staff, including teachers from schools, colleges, higher learning institutions, and technical and vocational institutions under the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs were present at the ceremony.
It was held in response to a call of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to make Brunei a “Zikir Nation”.
It also aims to solidify the commitment of officers and educators of the Ministry of Education towards the implementation of effective education. The ceremony is held annually on September 23, to commemorate the birthday of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Khairi Waddien, to fondly remember his contribution towards the development of education in Brunei Darussalam.
This year, a highlight event of the 24th Teachers Day Celebration Ceremony and 100 Years of Formal Education will be held on October 9, 2014, at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre, Berakas. The theme will be “Lifelong Education, to Ensure the Well-Being of the People”.
