I WOULD like to highlight the dismal state of the roads and traffic system in the Kuala Belait industrial area and although this has been ongoing for a long time, it does appear that the situation has been steadily deteriorating with every passing year.
The KB industrial area is fully occupied with many companies providing services and support to the Oil and Gas industry. However, there is only one main road leading into the estate, with heavy traffic throughout the day. The road is extremely narrow, and is made worse by indiscriminate parking.
The main road as well as the smaller roads leading to workshops and offices have potholes. The roads are in such a bad state that if you turn into the side road where the main company signs are located, there is a major pothole that only one car can pass through at a time.
I propose the authorities take immediate action on the following issues:
- An alternative road leading into the industrial area, possibly from the other roundabout in front of JKR to join the main road, or directly from the KB-Seria Bypass.
- Road widening to be done with proper drainage along main roads. Roads should be properly marked and signs installed at right places.
- Common parking areas and walkways should be built at various points throughout the industrial area. The shophouses have numerous car parks available at the front and back, but these have been made into open storage areas by some companies. Proper walkways needed to allow people to park and walk to their worksites.
- Installation of traffic lights at the roundabout where vehicles get backed up to 500 metres and more during peak working hours.
I hope the relevant authorities will look into improving the situation for the many hundreds of frustrated commuters who use the roads daily in this area.
