A TOTAL of eight Dikir groups competed in the Dikir Syarafil Anam Competition yesterday organised by the Technical Services Department and the Development Department, Public Works Department (PWD) at the Indera Pahlawan Hall, Work Competency Test and Training Centre, Ministry of Development.
The guest of honour was Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman.
Thirteen teams participated in the qualifying round comprising seven male and six female teams.
From the qualifying round, only eight teams were selected to enter the finals. The chosen male teams were from the Technical Services and Development Department; the Department of Building Services; Town and Country Planning Department and the Land Department.
A total of four female teams made it to the final round, namely the Technical Services and Development Department; Building Services Department; Water Services Department and Survey Department.
The male category was won by the Technical Services and Development Department with a score of 92 per cent.
First runner-up was the Building Services Department with 87 per cent while the Land Department came in third with 84 per cent.
In the female category, the Survey Department emerged the winner with a total score of 92 per cent. In second was the Building Services Department with 89 per cent while the Water Services Department settled for third place with 88 per cent.
The objective of this competition was to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), encouraging the practice of Dikir and to encourage the participants to recite ‘selawat’ to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) daily to gain blessings from Allah the Almighty.
The competition ended with a talk presented by Dr Mohammad Ady Zaky bin Hj Matassim entitled “The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) brings blessings to all people.”
