A DIALOGUE session between the Agriculture and AgriFood Department and farmers and livestock breeders in Temburong were recently held at Bumiputera Hall in Bangar Town.
The event was attended by Hjh Aidah binti Hj Mohd Hanifah, the Director of Agriculture and AgriFood, Acting Deputy Director, assistant directors and senior officers.
According to a press release, some 250 farmers and livestock breeders attended the dialogue session, which was held as part of the annual activity to mark the Farmers, Fishermen and Livestock Breeders Day, which was launched on November 1.
Last year, the overall gross production of agriculture and agrifood industry contributed to some $291.67 million nationwide, of which Temburong produced some $3.97 million.
The main contributor from Temburong was its fruits industry at $1.78 million, followed by rice industry ($0.59 million) and poultry ($0.57 million). Vegetable industry contributed $0.36 million, agrifood processing based on crops product ($0.31 million), crops ($0.17 million), livestock ($0.15 million) and agrifood industry based on livestock products ($0.04 million).
The department also shared progra-mmes to enhance the production of agriculture and agrifood which are currently and will be implemented.
To date, there are 902 farmers and companies in Temburong, which is 17 per cent of the total farmers, livestock breeders and agriculture and agrifood entreprenuers nationwide.
There are 103 livestock breeders, 757 crops farmers and 42 agrifood processing entreprenuers nationwide.
Among other things, the dialogue session was aimed at assessing the current development of the Agriculture and AgriFood industry in the country and looking at ways to improve the quantity and quality of products in order to ensure it is safe for consumers and up to par with foreign competitors’ products.
