THE final round of the Oratory Competition for Higher Learning Institute 2014, jointly organised by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the Centre for Promotion of Knowledge and Language Learning (CPKL), Universiti Islam Sharif Ali (UNISSA), was held yesterday with the guest of honour, Deputy Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Yusoff bin Hj Ismail, presenting the prizes.
Also present at the UNISSA’s Jubilee Hall were Director of ACB and Permanent Secretary (Law and Welfare) at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Juanda bin Hj Abdul Rashid; Rector of UNISSA, Dr Hj Norarfan bin Hj Zainal, UNISSA lecturers, senior officers from ACB as well as officers from the Ministry of Education (MoE).
For the competition’s male category, Muhd Raziq Raziqin bin Abdullah, an undergraduate at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), was named champion, followed by first runner-up Adi Aismat bin Lamat from UNISSA and second runner-up Abdul Wafi bin Hj Abdul Rahman, an undergraduate at Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPUSB).
Meanwhile, the female category was won by UBD undergraduate ‘Izztul Abidah binti Hj Mohd Gani, followed by Nurizzati binti Hj Lamat, a student of Politeknik Brunei, while Siti Nabilah binti Arifin from KUPUSB came in third.
Yesterday’s event was initiated with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa, followed by a welcome address by Director of CPKL and co-chairperson of the organising committee, Dr Siti Sara binti Hj Ahmad.
Themed “Peranan Warga IPT Dalam Membanteras Rasuah”, the competition marks the first joint project of ACB and UNISSA and is also considered one of the 4th Mahrajan Hafi Al-Taharu events.
In addition to educating youths in line with the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) and fostering ties, it aimed to enhance public awareness on the effects and dangers of corruption as well as the security and welfare of the country.
There was also a Tausyeh performance by female undergraduates, followed by an oratory presentation by Sheikh Husrin Jairul Azry bin Sheikh Hassan.
