THE opening ceremony of the 3rd Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Beach Sepak Takraw Cup was held at the Beach Court of the Menglait Sports Complex yesterday.
Eight teams will vie for the Deputy Minister Cup title including three teams from the Royal Brunei Police Force, four teams from the Sports School and Muara Spurs.
The tournament is organised by the Brunei Darussalam Sepak Takraw Association (Pestabaru) with the cooperation of the Department of Youth and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The guest-of-honour at the opening ceremony was Hj Abdul Malik bin Hj Mohammad, Director of Youth and Sports.
The highlight of the event was the handing over of the championship trophy from last year’s winners to the guest-of-honour before presenting it to the President of Pestabaru, Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan bin Pengiran Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abas.
The guest of honour was given the opportunity to draw the opening fixture which saw Sports School ‘C’ beating Royal Brunei Police Force ‘B’ 2-0 (17-15, 15-4).
Action will resume on Sunday starting at 9.15am and the date for the final is yet to be announced.
