THE Defence Advisor of the Malaysian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam hosted a mass Sunnat Hajat prayer, recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil ceremony to celebrate the Royal Malaysian Armed Forces’ (RMAF) 81st Anniversary at Tarindak D’Seni Restaurant in Jalan Kota Batu.
Present at the ceremony as guest of honour was the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat.
The ceremony was also attended by the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih Bin Abdullah, members of Defence Executive Committee, Military and Civilian Directors and representatives of government and private agencies including envoys and defence attaches from diplomatic missions.
The event began with a mass Maghrib prayer followed by the recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil, a blessing prayer and the Isyak prayer, led by Captain Suhaimi bin Haji Saman of the Military Religious Corps (KAGAT), RMAF.
The Malaysian High Commissioner, Datuk Awang Sahak bin Awang Salleh, in his welcome speech, on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces, RMAF, praised the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the continuous commitment to work closely with the RMAF and to further strengthen ties between the two armed forces.
Datuk Awang Sahak also highlighted that the relations committed by both armed forces remained strong in the aspects of training, military exercises, courses and intelligence exchange.
Together with the RMAF, Brunei has been sending troops to be part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) since 2008 under the umbrella of Malaysian peacekeepers, the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT).
Currently there are some 850 Malaysian peacekeepers in Lebanon while Brunei has deployed some 30 personnel.
Apart from that, Royal Brunei Armed Forces personnel are also joining the Malaysian contingent in the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao. The RMAF celebrates its anniversary every 16 September. Also present at the ceremony were former Deputy Defence Minister and RBAF Commanders.
