THE Department of Youth and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday held a welcoming dinner for the 20th Asean Youth Day Meeting (AYDM) at the Cesar Hall 1 and 2 of the Orchid Garden Hotel.
The guest of honour of the event was Hj Mohd Noor Jusmin bin Hj Abd Samad, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Also present was the Chairman of AYDM, Hj Abdul Malik bin Hj Mohammad, Director of Youth and Sports and Vice-Chairman of AYDM, Hj Rosmadee bin Hj Mohd Daud, Deputy Director of Youth and Sports.
The AYDM was organised as part of the implementation of the decisions made during the 1st Asean Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY 1) held in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia in 1992 and the resolution of the 15th Asean Sub Committee on Youth (ASY) Meeting held in Solo, Republic of Indonesia in April 1998.
Previously, Brunei Darussalam hosted the AYDM on August 6 to 10, 2004 in Bandar Seri Begawan.
The objectives of AYDM are to enhance Asean awareness, exchange experience, views and ideas among Asean youth and to further develop common perception of the Asean youth policy in human resources development.
The AYDM is also aimed to strengthen regional solidarity, stability and prosperity among Asean youth and to achieve the goal of pursuing continuous peace, progress and prosperity in the Asean region through active and proactive participation of the youth of Asean.
The AYDM will be held from October 8 to 11.
