THE Department of Water Services, Public Works Department, has apologised to the affected residents in some parts of the Brunei-Muara District, notably Sg Hanching and its surrounding areas in Jalan Muara, for the recent water woes.
There was an incident of major breakdown during the early morning of October 16 of the existing 760mm main pipe located in the vicinity of Sg Kedayan Bridge, Jalan Gadong that supplies the areas of Jalan Gadong and Jalan Muara including Kg Pulaie, Kg Sg Akar, Kg Sg Hanching and the surrounding areas.
Due to the adverse condition, location and other factors beyond control, it took the department long hours of strenuous efforts to rectify the problem.
Upon completion of repair works on the early morning of October 17, there was a noticeable steady improvement in the water supply situation, followed by a diminishing number of water supply complaints, except for several residents residing in hilly areas and those further from the water storage sources.
In the meantime, the department is still deploying water tankers to the remaining affected areas while undertaking an effort to fully restore the water supply by conducting appropriate balancing in the distribution system of the pipe networks as well as the vital night operations to stabilise the reservoir water level.
The department has deeply regretted the unforeseen incidents and appreciate the kind understanding and patience shown by the affected residents.
