A BRUNEIAN man appeared before the Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday to face eight charges under the Road Traffic Act and the Penal Code. No plea was taken to enable the prosecution to furnish the defendant with the relevant documentation and to give the defendant and his defence counsel time to prepare the case.
The defendant, YAM Pengiran Muda Abdul Mu’min, is represented by Balendran Balasingam of Ho & Siong, Advocates and Solicitors, while DPP Hjh Anifa Rafiza Hj Abd Ghani appeared for the Public Prosecutor.
The charges against the defendant allege driving without due care and attention, driving while disqualified, involving in a road accident and failing to report to the police within 24 hours, driving a motor vehicle with an expired insurance and giving false information to the police.
Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil Daraina bin Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin granted the defendant bail of $10,000 or one local surety with the condition not to interfere with the prosecution’s potential witnesses.
The case was adjourned and will be mentioned again on December 1, 2014.
