DBP signs book agreement with local writers

TEN local writers have signed a publishing agreement with Dr Haji Mohd Ali bin Haji Radin, the Head of the Book Planning Section at the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP); and Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak, the Acting Deputy Director of DBP.

The signing ceremony, held yesterday at the Berakas Multipurpose Hall, was witnessed by several invited guests, including Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; and Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, the Acting Director of DBP.

In his welcoming speech, Suip said that the DBP has undertaken several proactive steps to promote local publications, including books in digital format, in addition to more works from local writers, to further enrich Brunei’s language and cultivate a local literary
scene.

The 10 books, including ‘Calak Bangsa’, written by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs under the pen name of Badaruddin HO, will be published in February and launched at the upcoming 2018 Brunei Book Fair.

According to a representative from the Book Planning Section at the DBP, the signing agreement demonstrated DBP’s strong commitment to support local writers who have made significant efforts to share their knowledge with members of the next generation in Brunei.
