THE Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) has announced details on the upcoming 2014 edition of Cybersecurity Awareness Week.
The event, announced in a curtain raiser press briefing yesterday, is being held in conjunction with the APEC Telecommunications’ Cyber Security Awareness Day and Asean-Japan Information Security Policy Meeting’s Cybersecurity Awareness Week, which are celebrated annually on October 29 and the first week of November respectively.
For Brunei, Cybersecurity Awareness Week will be taking place on November 10-11 at the Songket Hall of the Rizqun International Hotel.
Organised by AITI and supported by the Ministry of Communications, the event also involves partnership from the Ministry of Education, Royal Brunei Police Force, Attorney General’s Chambers and Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT).
Cybersecurity Week is aimed at increasing awareness on online safety and security issues among internet users in Brunei, and focuses on promoting standards of appropriate behaviour online, including when using social media, particularly among youths.
Carrying the theme, ‘The Future, Our Responsibility Together’, the event is set to highlight the proper etiquette on how users can protect themselves online and behave appropriately on social media.
A number of activities have been lined up over the course of the event, with a focus on children.
One such activity is a creative presentation competition, which has been designed specifically for young students, centred on the topic of Cybersecurity.
Day one will see presentations by 10 finalists of the competition, as well as talks dealing with raising awareness on cybersecurity among children. The second day will also feature talks, this time targeted at parents. In addition, day two will see presentations by the top three finalists of the competition.
In conjunction with Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2014, the second day will see guest of honour Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications, launching the National Broadband Policy. He will also deliver a keynote speech and launch the Cybersecurity Awareness Video 2014.
The Cybersecurity Awareness Week event is open to the public, and those interested can RSVP by contacting AITI or register at the venue on the day itself.
The curtain raiser press briefing was led by officers from AITI, namely Haji Zailani bin Haji Abdul Malik, Senior Manager of Information Security from the Corporate Strategy Group; Hilwani bin Shahimi, Senior Manager of Programme Management from the National Broadband and Services Group; Haji Hadi Iskandar DP Haji Mohammad, Manager of Corporate Communications; and Haji Mohammad Nurhafiz bin Haji Rahim, Assistant Manager of Corporate Communications.
