A ROYAL Customs and Excise Department agent was yesterday acquitted by the Intermediate Court of six charges of corruption and obtaining valuable items in connection with his principal’s affairs.
Muhammad Rafi bin Hj Abd Rashid earlier claimed trial to three charges of corruptly accepting $3,600 from a fuel smuggler at a mini mart in Sungai Liang and Sungai Tujoh Customs Post on November 2007, and in January and February of 2008.
Three allegations were of his act in obtaining the valuable items.
Judge Haji Abdullah Soefri PD Hj Abidin found the case was not proven by the DPP to be beyond the court’s reasonable doubt with the many inconsistencies in the witnesses’ evidence.
Lawyer Yusof Halim represented the defendant, while DPP Pg Jasmine Pg Hj Bahrin appeared for the Public Prosecutor.
