THE Cultural and Arts Section, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, organised a Cultural Week for students of Year 7 to Year 12 in conjunction with the school holidays.
The event, which was held at the Pandan Community Hall, Kuala Belait, ended Wednesday.
During the Cultural Week, the students had the opportunity to learn traditional dances, music, puppetry and fashion through a series of workshops held.
They also had the chance to prepare themselves for a performance to exhibit what they have learned.
Jamaluddin bin Abu, a Year 10 student from the Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School, during an interview with the Bulletin said, “We joined this programme with the aim of doing more productive activities during the school holidays besides studying and having leisure time.
“For the final performance, I played the ‘Canang’, a traditional music instrument which is a smaller version of a ‘Gong’. The songs we played were ‘Gabungkok’ and ‘Dundang Dundang’ while using other traditional music instruments such as ‘Gulintangan’ and ‘Seruling’. The songs were also accompanied with a dance.”
Students from Perdana Wazir Secondary School and Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Secondary School also took part in the event.
