HIS Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Pro-Chancellor of ITB, launched the first ever Pesta Konvo of Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) at the campus atrium yesterday.
ITB also launched two new facilities along with the Pesta Konvo.
After launching the ITB Pesta Konvo and watching performances of the students, His Royal Highness went on a tour and launched the campus’ new Staff and Students Centre – a one stop service centre for staff and students.
The centre is part of the registry and is available to assist staff and students as well as other visitors with general inquiries at its service counter.
A briefing was presented by students chosen to receive industry experiences through work placements and study abroad. The students underwent placement programmes at Piper Aircraft Inc, USA, some info-communications technology companies in Singapore through the ‘Inspire’ programme run by AITI Brunei Darussalam and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
The placement programme is successfully implemented through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked between ITB, host organisations overseas and local agencies.
The centre is divided into several sections including the Administration Section, which provides a range of services to university staff related to the latest staff service records, manages statistics, oversees salary increments/reviews and staff appraisal, just to name a few.
The Personnel Section provides a range of services related to staff promotion, posts confirmation, staff development, and fringe benefits applications.
The Academic Section provides services and advice related to admissions, registration, fees, exams and results, graduation, etc.
Apart from launching the Staff and Students Centre, His Royal Highness also inaugurated the ITB Gallery, which is housed in ‘The Pearl’ building using a mobile web application designed by a group of ITB students.
The ITB Gallery, themed ‘Past, Present & Future’, exhibits information related to the history, development and future plans of ITB. It acts as a platform for documenting and showcasing the journey of ITB as a university with its own distinctive history and its visionary future plans.
One of the interesting eye-catchers during the launching of the gallery was a video which showed the ITB Convocation Gallery’s unique designs and features on the ITB academic robes, and the special equipment for the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor and Mushafs, which was first used during the ITB Convocation 2013.
The video footage also showed the Proclamation Ceremony of the Pro-Chancellor which was held during the ITB Convocation 2013, which also saw the first graduates of Bachelor degrees students of ITB since the campus was upgraded to a university in 2008.
