HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al- Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah graced the His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam 68th Birthday Pencak Silat Competition for Tutong District at Tutong Sports Complex yesterday.
Their Royal Highnesses witnessed His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim clinching top spot with his International School Brunei (ISB) teammates in the Junior Free Strike Festival category.
The prince also scooped third prize in the Free Strike Individual child category.
ISB also won the Best Silat Group Performance award.
Mohd Hasif bin Hj Alisam won the prestigious Best Silat Performance Solo award while Nur Izatul Fatihah binti Hj Hazam claimed the Best Silat Appearance Solo award.
Multiple awards were presented to the top silat performers who drew awe with their amazing performances.
Afiq Aiman bin Hj Ainie won the Free Strike teenage solo male category while Nur Syafiqah bte Hj Mohd Sefirri won the female category.
Meanwhile, the winners of the Seni Silat Kuntau male and female categories were Md Arrsyafiq bin Hassan and Qistina Atirah binti Zainal.
The winners of the Seni Ganda teenage male and female categories were the partnership of Md Hafizul bin Ibrahim and Md Aliuddin bin Japar and the duo of Nur Syafiqah binti Hj Md Sefirri and Anisah Najihah.
It was double delight for Abdul Azim bin Dukahar, who bagged the Seni Silat Cekak and Single Strike teenage male categories, while Anisah Najihah won the female category in Seni Silat Cekak.
A five-member jury assessed the exponents across a range of techniques including the ability to execute throws, joint manipulation and the use of bladed weaponry.
The competition was organised by the Department of Youth and Sports (Tutong) in collaboration with Brunei Darussalam Silat Association (PERSIB).
