A LOCAL couple yesterday had a change of heart on the first day of trial and pleaded guilty to charges of theft and misappropriation of property at the Magistrate’s Court in Bandar Seri Begawan.
Zemseayakub bin Matassim and Noormalianti binte Hj Omar pleaded guilty to a first count of misappropriating five pieces of car components, an absorber and steel pipe between 2.30pm and 6pm on January 2 at a house in Kg Belimbing Subok.
The couple also stole a foldable tent from another house in Kg Belimbing Subok on the same day.
Zemseayakub asked for lenient sentences and for them to run concurrently.
He was sentenced to a total of four months’ jail – a consecutive sentence of two months for each charge – by Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil Daraina.
Noormalianti, who is an inmate at Al-Islah, asked for the same and for the court to consider as she is still undergoing rehabilitation.
Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil set November 6 for sentencing, pending a report from Al-Islah on Noormalianti’s progress.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, a 25-year-old local was jailed two months after he pleaded guilty to stealing drilling tools from a house.
Muhamad Abdul Hafiz bin Abdul Rahman hitched a ride with some friends to Kg Dato Gandi on an evening during the month of Ramadhan this year.
The defendant alighted the car and proceeded to the back of one of the houses after noticing it was not occupied.
He then took a set of drilling tools and left.
