GEORGE TOWN (Bernama) – A total of 426 bags of various counterfeit brands were seized in an operation conducted by the Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) Enforcement Division at the Batu Ferringhi night market on Thursday.
Penang KPDNKK’s deputy chief enforcement officer, Jamal Nor Ahmad Harun said five premises were inspected during the three-hour operation starting from 8pm.
“Altogether 52 units of fake Prada bags, 114 Gucci, 180 Louis Vuitton and 80 Chanel, all worth RM50,000 were confiscated.
“These bags are sold between RM50 and RM500 each to foreign tourists,” he told a media conference yesterday.
He said the operation also involved representatives from the company’s trademark owners, Global Trade Shield Sdn Bhd, that identified the material, logo and design of the fake bags.
About 120 stalls at the night market were found to be dumping grounds for fake goods, which had affected the image of the area that had become the focus of international tourists, he added.
