A 35-YEAR-OLD Bruneian man pleaded guilty to a charge of committing theft from a hardware store in Gadong.
Senior magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah Hussain heard Mohd Radzuan Hj Imran pleading guilty to stealing two Hitachi cordless drills from Wee Mey Trading Company at about 4pm on September 5.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Dk Hazirah Pg Yusof informed the Senior Magistrate that the defendant simply entered the shop and took two boxes of cordless drills worth $490 and drove away his car.
An employee saw this and on checking it was found that the defendant did not pay for the goods. The shop worker then chased him but to no avail as the defendant had escaped by this time. The employee then lodged a police report and it led to the defendant’s arrest.
The stolen items were recovered by police after the defendant sold them off for $130.
The offence carries imprisonment of up to seven years with fine. The defendant will learn of his fate on Tuesday.
