NINE CONVERTS, who are intending Haj pilgrims, yesterday received financial assistance to perform the pilgrimage.
The handing over ceremony took place at Teratai Hall of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam had consented to the awarding of Haj fare to converts. As per this award, each intending Haj pilgrim received a total of $4,500.
In addition, they also received another $8,000 from the Zakat Asnaf Muallaf to top up the amount needed to pay for the Haj package under Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad, the Zamrud Package Z1, that costs $12,500.
At the same time, they were also given spending money worth $2,000 from the Zakat.
Present to hand over the financial assistance to the converts was Awg Haji Abd Aziz bin Haji Akop, Acting Secretary of Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).
During the ceremony, Awang Hj Abd Aziz advised the new converts urging them to implement and practise what they learnt from the intensive course for Haj pilgrims they attended recently at the Islamic Dakwah Centre.
The acting secretary also advised them to be patient in overcoming physical and mental challenges and prepare themselves with ‘taqwa’ during the pilgrimage.
The objective of the assistance is to enhance the convert’s appreciation of Islam and motivate them to be steadfast, not only in terms of their faith towards Allah the Almighty but also in implementing their worship within
the Islamic Syariah, particularly in carrying out the pillars of Islam such as performing Haj.
