THE presentation of a house key to a 77-year-old man who recently converted to Islam, Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah Yakin, as part of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Housing Assistance Scheme, took place yesterday at Kampong Rambai in Tutong and was conducted by the Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail.
Abdul Rahman’s current home is in a poor condition and relies on a generator for a supply of electricity. He depends solely on his monthly pension of $250 for seniors, which comes from the Community Development Department. His wife also receives an elderly pension allowance.
The couple have no biological children but have adopted one boy and one girl from their relatives. Their adopted son currently resides with them while their adopted daughter lives with her husband.
The new home has three bedrooms, a guest room, kitchen and toilet.
Witnessing the presentation was the Tutong District Officer, Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, the Penghulu of Mukim Rambai, as well as the Acting Village Head of Kampong Rambai and officials from the Tutong District Office and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
The home under the Yayasan Housing Scheme is meant especially for converts who are underprivileged and cannot afford to build their own house.
The overall housing scheme is a project implemented by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah as part of efforts to promote and upgrade the welfare of citizens.
