A 22-YEAR-OLD student from Politeknik Brunei, Mohammad Akif bin Abdullah Suliman of Iban descent, yesterday embraced the Islamic faith at a conversion ceremony held at the Mu’izzah Hall at the Islamic Dakwah Centre.
The ceremony was witnessed by guest of honour, Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Shuardhey Anak Suliman, who adopted the Islamic name Mohammad Akif bin Abdullah Suliman, upon conversion, cited the Syahadah in the presence of officers from the Islamisation and Conversion Unit of the Islamic Dakwah Centre.
Also present were Acting Director of Politeknik Brunei, Denis Ho Mun Tai, heads of departments, school principals, staff members, lecturers at the institution as well as friends and family members of the newly converted.
A recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah was also read to bless the ceremony, which was followed by a short religious lecture, a Doa Selamat and a Dikir Marhaban in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) birth anniversary.
