THE leadership of the Republic of Singapore, comprising President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law, K Shanmugam, sent congratulatory messages to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with the 31st National Day of Brunei Darussalam.
President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam on behalf of the people of the Republic of Singapore extended his warmest regards to His Majesty and the people of Brunei on this joyous occasion.
“Under Your Majesty’s benevolent leadership, Brunei continues to enjoy stability and prosperity and remains an Abode of Peace. Our two nations continue to strengthen our special friendship to the benefit of both our peoples.
“I was very pleased to be able to host Your Majesty on a recent state visit made to Singapore last year. It was a valuable opportunity to explore further ways to deepen our relationship, and I enjoyed meeting Your Majesty again.
“I look forward to welcoming Your Majesty to Singapore to join us in commemorating the special occasion of Singapore’s 50th anniversary of Independence. It will be our honour to have the presence of a steadfast friend to mark this historic milestone with us.
“Please accept my best wishes for Your Majesty’s good health and happiness and for Brunei’s continued success.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong extended his warmest regards to the people of Brunei, on behalf of the government and people of Singapore, saying, “Under Your Majesty’s benevolent and wise rule, Brunei continues to enjoy peace, prosperity and stability. Brunei is making good progress in achieving the ambitious targets set out in Wawasan Brunei 2035. Brunei has also contributed much to Asean, especially with regard to efforts to inaugurate a new era of cooperaton with the launch of the Asean Community.
“Singapore and Brunei share a close and long-standing friendship based on mutual respect and bound by trust. We have built on our early partnership and deepened our ties over the past decades. With Your Majesty’s continued strong support, our friendship will endure and strengthen in the years ahead. We are deeply honoured that Your Majesty will be joining us in celebrating Singapore’s 50th National Day in August.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law, K Shanmugam, sent his congratulations to His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
